Thrifting began as a way for me to update my wardrobe and acquire a few new styles that would inspire me. It soon became so much more.
I’ve always loved going to thrift stores or stumbling upon a good garage sale on the weekends, but this summer I really fell in love with the idea that I could find anything while digging through piles of clothes that have been forgotten. My summer treasure hunt sparked a new outlook on clothing for me. I started to find myself becoming more familiar with fabrics I had little experience with, easily identifying a vintage silk top, or an item made from man-made fibers.
After filling my wardrobe with what seemed to be hundreds of new items, it was time to sift through my old clothes and create my dream closet. I found many items that inspired me to analyze what they originally were and find a new purpose for them. I used accessories and fabrics such as scarves and worn-out jeans as well as my knowledge of fabrication and fashion design from Savannah College of Art and Design.
The pictures in this album are a collection of a few of those pieces and an example of their original state.
